“A pretty wedding took place on Saturday at St Giles Church, Shipbourne between Miss daisy Mary Fermor, only child of Mr and Mrs H Fermor of Great budds Farm Shipbourne and Mr John WM davenpoprt, only son of Mr and Mrs TC Davenport of 31 Woodside Road, Tonbridge.
“Jack” Davenport as he is known among a very wide circle of friends and acquaintances is one of the oldest and most popular members of The Angel tennis Club, of which he is Captain and this popularity is equally shared by Mrs J.W. Davenport, whose photograph recently appeared in a daily newspaper as being one of Britain’s beautiful sports girls.Mr Davenport, at the last annual meeting of the Old Juddian Society was elected chairman.
The ceremony was conducted in the picturesque church of st. Giles Shipbourne, the Vicar (Rev. F.L. Shreiber) officiating. the building was filled to capacity.
The bride who was given away by her father was dressed in white silk marocain, with silver ribbons from the waist, and veil and wreath of orange blossom, and silver shoes and stockings. Her ivory brooch was the gift of Rev F.L.Shreiber. The bouquet was of pink and white carnations and white heather.
The bride’s mother’s dress was of brown satin embroidered in brown, and a black hat: and the bridegrooms mother was attired in golden brown silk stockinette and black hat.
There were five charming bridesmaids, all wore wreaths of silk leaves, white socks, and black patent shoes and they carried silver baskets of mauve Michaelmax daisies.
Their gifts from the bridegroom were pearl and gold brooches…
